Die Ausgabe 2023 des Global Innovation Index (GII) erfasst den Puls globaler Innovationstrends vor dem Hintergrund eines von Unsicherheit geprägten wirtschaftlichen Umfelds. Es zeigt die Rangliste der diesjährigen innovativsten Volkswirtschaften der Welt unter 132 Volkswirtschaften und lokalisiert die 100 größten Innovationscluster in Wissenschaft und Technologie.

Der Globale Innovationsindex 2023 zeigt, dass Regierungen und Unternehmen in vielen Teilen der Welt große Anstrengungen unternehmen Investitionen in Innovationen zu fördern. Dies verdeutlicht die zunehmende Erkenntnis, dass neue Ideen für die Überwindung der Probleme der Zukunft und die Sicherheit und Wohlfahrt der Menschen in unsischeren Zeiten besonders wichtig sind. Deutschland hat seine Position unter den ersten 10 weiter gehalten.

Der Globale Innovationsindex wird als Durchschnitt aus zwei Teilindizes berechnet. Der Teilindex für den Innovationsinput misst die Elemente der Wirtschaft, die innovative Aktivitäten ermöglichen und erleichtern, und ist in fünf Säulen unterteilt: (1) Institutionen, (2) Humankapital und Forschung, (3) Infrastruktur, (4) Marktausgereiftheit und (5) Unternehmensausgereiftheit. Der Teilindex für den Innovationsoutput erfasst das tatsächliche Ergebnis innovativer Aktivitäten innerhalb der Wirtschaft und ist in zwei Säulen unterteilt: (6) Wissens- und Technologieoutput und (7) Kreativitätsoutput.
