Today WIPO announces World Intellectual Property Day 2021

World Intellectual Property Day 2021 shines a light on the critical role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the economy and how they can use intellectual property (IP) rights to build stronger, more competitive and resilient businesses.

A large number of S&M businesses are still not adequately protected on the market. The need for intellectual property rights and the necessity to invest sufficiently in intellectual property rights are not part of the content taught in business and technology courses at schools, colleges and universities. This results in a steadily growing disadvantage compared to competitors, especially from countries where industrial property protection is one of the leading state objectives.

What are green technologies?

Green technologies are environmentally sound technologies as defined in Chapter 34 of Agenda 21 (The United Nations Program of Action from Rio, 1992). Green technologies “protect the environment, are less polluting, use all resources in a more sustainable manner, recycle more of their wastes and products, and handle residual waste in a more acceptable manner than the technologies for which they were substitutes”.
